My favorite supplements for PCOS
Supplements can have POWERFUL effects on improving PCOS symptoms when used alongside nutrition and lifestyle changes. Here are my favorite supplements that I recommend to my clients the biggest difference in resolving their symptoms.
Myo & D-chiro Inositol: Supports insulin sensitivity and glucose absorption into the cell. Studies have also shown that inositol performs equally as well as Metformin without side effects. The therapeutic dose ranges from 2-4g/day.
Berberine: Improves insulin sensitivity and regulates the regulate gut microbiota-- two birds with one stone with this one! Berberine has also been shown to improve fertility and live birth rates with PCOS. The therapeutic dose ranges between 900-2000mg/day.
Magnesium: Women with PCOS have been shown to have lower levels of serum magnesium than their non-PCOS peers. Magnesium helps reduce stress, improve sleep, balance blood sugar, stabilize mood, and reduce PMS symptoms, and SO. MUCH. MORE. Therapeutic dose ~400mg/day.
NAC: Offers powerful antioxidant properties, lowers androgens, and supports your body's natural detox pathways. The therapeutic dose ranges between 600-1200mg/day.
Cod Liver Oil: Higher in vitamin D and vitamin A than regular fish oil, cod liver oil promotes insulin sensitivity, improves triglycerides, and supports mood and mental health. The therapeutic dose depends on the product.
